ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR UPSC CIVIL SERVICES:

UPSC ELIGIBILITY FOR IAS-IPS-IFS-CIVIL SERVICES

(i) NATIONALITY FOR UPSC CIVIL SERVICES:

A candidate for UPSC Civil Services must be any one out of below
(a) An Indian citizen, or
(b) a subject of Bhutan, or
(c) a subject of Nepal, or

(d) a Tibetan refugee  who came  to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of setting  permanently in India, or

(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from, Srilanka, Pakistan, Burma, East African countries of Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, the United Republic of Tanzania, Malawi, Ethiopia, Zaire and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

A candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) shall have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

(ii) AGE LIMITS FOR UPSC CIVIL SERVICES EXAM:

 (a) Minimum age for UPSC Exam is  21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on 1st August 2017. To be more specific, not born earlier than 2nd August 1985 and not later than 1st August 1996.
(b) Relaxation in The upper age limit for Civil Services Exam:
(i)  up to a maximum of five years for a candidate of a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled  Tribe.
(ii) up to a maximum of three years for candidates of Other Backward  Classes who are eligible to avail of reservation.

(iii) up to a maximum of three years for Defence Services personnel disabled in operations in a disturbed are or during hostilities with any foreign country  and released as a consequence thereof:

(iv) up to a maximum of five years for ex-servicemen  which includes Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs after rendering at least five years Military Service as on 1st August 2017  have been released (i) on completion of assignment, or (ii) on account of physical disability attributable to Military Service, or (iii) on invalided.

(v) up to a maximum of five years for  ECOs/SSCOs who  completed an initial period of assignment of five years of Military Service as on 1st August, 2017 and got their assignment extended beyond five years and but have a certificate issued by  the Ministry of Defence that they can apply for civil employment and that they will be released on three month’s notice on selection from the date of receipt of offer of appointment.

(vi) up to a maximum of 10 years in the case of Low Vision and  Hearing Impaired persons.


(iii) MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR UPSC: 

The candidate for UPSC Civil Services must have a Bachelor’s degree. Candidate of Forest Services shoud be graduate with at least one of the subjects namely  Botany, Chemistry, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Mathematics, Geology, Physics, Statistics, and Zoology or a Bachelor’s degree in  Forestry, Agriculture, or in Engineering of any of Universities established by an Act of the State or Central Legislature in India or any educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or which is declared to be deemed as a University under Sec.3 of the U.G.C. Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification


(iv) TOTAL  NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS FOR UPSC CIVIL SERVICES:

Every eligible candidate shall be given six attempts at the UPSC civil services examination. This restriction will not apply in the case of eligible Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates. The number of attempts permissible to candidates of eligible Other Backward Classes, will be nine.

A physically handicapped will get same no. attempts as are available to other nonphysically handicapped candidates of his or her community. But a physically handicapped candidate of a General Category shall be eligible for nine attempts.

NOTE:
(i)  An attempt at a Preliminary Examination is considered as an attempt at the Examination.
(ii) If a candidate who appears in any one paper in the Preliminary Examination, he/she shall be considered to have made an attempt at the Examination.
(iii) Notwithstanding the disqualification/cancellation of candidature will count as an attempt.

(v) PHYSICAL STANDARDS FOR UPSC:

Candidates of UPSC Civil Services Exam must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Indian Forest Service Examination, 2017 as per regulations.
